Goodwill Shows Me Some Good Will

Oh geez y'all, I am soooooo sick at the moment but I got some super awesome things at the thrift stores over the weekend so I've got to muster the strength and post about them yes? :)

We spent a few days with my mom and she has some fantastic thrift stores near her house. Two of them are actually Goodwill stores and y'all have read of my suspicious nature towards Goodwill so imagine my surprise at consistently finding a little cool something here and there at her Goodwills that I never find at mine! We had a couple of shopping days so I'm going to split my posts up and only show you a couple of things here and will get to the rest later.

Behold! Decent things found at Goodwill! :P

I found this Modern Homemaker's cookbook from the 1960s:

I love any cookbook but I especially enjoy those that focus specifically on the "homemaker". There's usually great tips and much kitsch to enjoy in them.

For some reason, I'm always drawn to random glasses, mugs, cups, creamers, random what have yous. I just like the look of these. :) There's suppose to be a third one, an atomic looking tumbler but it busted in our suitcase on the way home. Boo!

I also found this groovy record which I admit I bought purely for the picture on the front:

I'm trying to gather some odds and ends to create a vintage vanity area in our bedroom and I was lucky enough to find this pretty powder box which still smells of powder:

The top of the box:

I did not buy these but my mom's friend was going through her Christmas decorations and graciously set some aside to give to me!

I was telling mom that I wanted to use some shelving in our kitchen to display vintage what nots and she donated this to my cause:

I'll share more later but for now I must crawl into a hole and be miserable before Toot wakes up from her nap. :D I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and if you made any vintage discoveries, please tell me about them! :)

  1. great finds Maggi, sorry about the busted item in your suitcase though. That's a bummer. I hope you start feeling better and that Toot is easy on you while you are recovering. take care of yourself!

  2. Sorry you are feeling crappy. Feel better soon!

Cool stuff. Especially love the cookbook. I have that same cookie press set, but the box disintegrated years ago. (Remember, I'm vintage - well, let's put it this way - I have children around your age - so probably your mom's age or possibly a little older. LOL) I'm loving seeing what vintage items interest your generation.

  5. Like Packrat, I'm older than most of you whippersnapper gals and guys and I LOVE that you're all so into the decades I grew up in! You use the word "y'all" and you say that your own local Goodwill is crap. So you MUST live close to me, ha ha. I stopped going to our Goodwill after I heard one of the workers on the phone telling someone to come down because something had come in that she wanted. I'm pretty sure that Goodwill isn't supposed to have "pickers" that work there, for cryin' out loud. All the good stuff that gets donated to them also goes on their website, so what's the use. You got some good stuff--hope you told your Mom to stop there once a week for you. Yeah, right!

  7. I'm one of those who rarely finds anything at Goodwill (I find, but it's usually too pricey). Even the 'by the pound' stores generally suck. You did good!

    I love that album cover!

And those amber colored drinking glasses....My mother had those, and my husbands mother had blue ones.

    I hope you feel better!

  11. Some nice finds there! We've always had our best luck in the more rural thrift (including Goodwill and Sally's) shops.

  15. Eeeeepppp, what fantastically fabulous finds, darling girl! I have an never-ending love for vintage cookbooks and am especially bananas for over your "new" Mary Meade (great find, I've seen that exact book sell for as much as $20!).

Have I told you lately what a wonderful person you are? Seriously, sweet friend, thank you so much not only for your immensely lovely comment (re: my BBC Mundo interview), but also for your wonderful letter that arrived last week (a reply is coming, just give me a wee bit to work on it). I can't begin to tell you how much receiving your letter brightened what was an otherwise rather lousy week (will elaborate in my next letter).

You really are a special soul, Maggie, thank you so much for everything!

Endless hugs & blissful Thursday wishes!
    ♥ Jessica
